The Gospel and Technology

Have you ever been so moved by a sermon or lesson that you attempted to share it with a friend or someone you cared about but were unable to do so? Maybe you felt that you couldn’t come close to presenting it as well as the original preacher and wished your loved one had been there to hear it themselves. Preachers, including myself, are not immune to this. Occasionally, I ask myself, “Why should I try to preach that again when I can just direct them to the original preacher of that word, the one to whom God gave the message, and let them hear what I heard for themselves?”

The mission of TheGospelPreached.org is to reach as many people as possible with the gospel of Jesus Christ through the use of technology. The Bible and the gospel have gradually become known to an increasing number of people since the time of Jesus. Technological advancements have significantly accelerated the spread of the gospel and our understanding of the scriptures.

Wycliffe’s and Tyndale’s English translations of the Bible are one example. Both men were inspired by the conviction that everyone, not just priests and those who could read Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, should have access to the Bible. Gutenberg’s use of the printing press to print the Bible is another example. Due to their high cost, handwritten manuscripts were previously exclusively available to clergy and the wealthy. The Church and the world have reaped immense benefits from these two technological advances.

In that same spirit and in its own modest way, TheGospelPreached.org emphasizes using technology to make the word of God more widely available. However, TheGospelPreached.org focuses on the fusion of spoken word and the written. Through preaching, men and women are empowered by the Holy Spirit to take the written word and make it relevant to the circumstances of each individual. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the written word becomes Rhema, the Word of God for a specific individual or group of people, at a specific time and place.

When the Rhema Word is offered and received into our hearts, we have an encounter with God. These experiences take place both publicly, when a man or woman of God is anointed to speak to God’s people, and privately, when we pray and study alone. The Rhema word is both prophetic and revelatory. By revelatory, I mean that God chooses pastors, teachers, prophets, and others to reveal the deeper mysteries of the scriptures. They shed light on difficult passages and stories, helping us better understand the Bible when we read it privately.

TheGospelPreached.org uses the internet and technology to bring the good news of Jesus Christ’s salvation to today’s generation, who are accustomed to using recorded video in every aspect of their lives. What distinguishes TheGospelPreached.com from other internet sites is the way the proclaimed word is presented—curated, classified, and annotated. Our intention is to simplify access to God’s preached word. Our hope is that if the Rhema word of God is more easily accessible, more people will turn to it, more often, and rely on it as a regular part of their daily lives.

The word is the “power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.” The Bible states that it “shall not return to [God] void but shall accomplish what [He] pleases and prosper in the thing unto which [He] sent it.” I love God’s word, both written and spoken. The power of viewing these messages from God has changed my life. My prayer and passion is that you will experience the same comfort, guidance, deliverance, and abundance that I have when I went to these men and women of God to receive the Rhema words that God has given them for us.
