His parents, Melvin Earl Johnson and Darlien Johnson, were Assemblies of God pastors, providing a solid spiritual foundation for his life. Bill's early exposure to ministry shaped his passion for revival and spiritual awakening.In 1978, Bill and his wife, Beni Johnson, began their pastoral journey in Weaverville, California, at Mountain Chapel, where they served for 17 years. Their time in Weaverville was marked by a growing hunger for revival and a deep commitment to the presence of God.


In 1996, Bill Johnson became the senior pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California. The church was originally part of the Assemblies of God denomination but later became nondenominational under Johnson's leadership. His vision for Bethel Church was to create a community centered on the presence of God and to equip believers to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth.Under Bill's leadership, Bethel Church has grown into a global movement, known for its emphasis on worship, healing, prophecy, and supernatural ministry. The church attracts thousands of attendees weekly and reaches millions worldwide through its online presence.One of the most significant aspects of Bethel Church is its Bethel Music ministry, a globally recognized worship collective that has produced numerous influential worship songs, including "Reckless Love""Raise a Hallelujah", and "Goodness of God." Bethel Music has become a leading voice in contemporary Christian worship, influencing churches worldwide.


In addition to Bethel Music, Bill Johnson co-founded the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM) in 1998, a training school designed to equip students for supernatural ministry. Tragically, Beni Johnson passed away in 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.
